As Tevye sings, the Columbus Food Truck Show has become “Tradition”.
I know it’s only been happening for two years but we have had a good
time stomping around the commons, enjoying the people zoo and trying
some new eats. We actually tripled our truck fare in our second year
and while they couldn’t all be great we did make a couple of finds.
We probably had more that was mediocre but that just comes with
more, we also had more tastiness. We snacked at
The Good Frank,
Holy Smoke BBQ, The Coop,
Nicolasa’s,
The Burrito Bus and
Gigi’s Cupcakes This is The Burrito Bus. |

The bus had quite a line working through the day and we sort of got it in our noggins that if we were going to add some tacos to our day, they would be from the bus. We ordered the smaller Nachos Gringos and two Rockin’ Tacos. The nachos didn’t do much for me, but my companions liked them. I liked them too but for me they were about equal to what you would find at Progressive Field and I like to expect something more from a food truck. Everything at the bus comes with an option from “The Farm” Mesquite Grilled Chicken, Seasoned Ground Beef or Shredded Pork and whatever else you would like to add from “The Yard” rice, black beans, cheese, lettuce, fresh jalapenos, onion, salsa, sour cream, tomato, and guacamole.
Our nachos were chicken with nacho cheese plus black beans, salsa
and sour cream. The guy adding toppings actually dumped the entire
plate of nachos into the cold table and I was sure he was stacking
them back on the plate to hand out the window but he did start over
which was nice to see, especially as hammered as they had been all
day. |

The tacos were better, soft flour tortillas with blotches of brown
toastiness were filled, one chicken, one beef, cheese, lettuce and
salsa. Their salsa was bright and fresh, the mesquite chicken was
the same as on the nachos and the beef was really well seasoned and
had a nice texture. I would have expected reheated dry crumbly nasty
on a day like today but found something better. The burrito bus
served a lot of solid Americanized Mexican fare over a couple of
days. It wasn’t really memorable but it does cure hunger in a
satisfactory way. |
