As Tevye sings, the Columbus Food Truck Show has become “Tradition”.
I know it’s only been happening for two years but we have had a good
time stomping around the commons, enjoying the people zoo and trying
some new eats. We actually tripled our truck fare in our second year
and while they couldn’t all be great we did make a couple of finds.
We probably had more that was mediocre but that just comes with
more, we also had more tastiness. We snacked at
The Good Frank,
Holy Smoke BBQ, The Coop,
Nicolasa’s,
The Burrito Bus and
Gigi’s Cupcakes This is Gigi's
Cupcakes. |

Headed out and stuffed, sweet was the only thing that had not made our list so we stopped at a little pink van labeled Gigi’s cupcakes. They had a small sample jobby with four teeny cakes and we added a regular sized chocolate salted caramel. The variety pack contained a mellow cream, a red velvet, a Vegas wedding and a miss princess. The cakes were all perfectly average…the frostings varied in success but a couple of them were prototypical, (that thing that pops into your mind first when you think about something) for me, nearly perfect. The Vegas wedding was boring in ways that might get them sued by the Las Vegas Tourism Board.
Wedding
cake with some colorful sprinkles and a blasé sugar mush on top, it
was mediocre wedding cake. Miss princess was a pink version of the
wedding cupcake, no great shakes. The mellow cream was much like a swiss cake roll or hoho with chocolate on chocolate and filled with,
well, a mellow cream.

Some Were Way Better Than Others |
That's A Stack Of Caramel Frosting |
The chocolate salted caramel was seriously lacking in salt, had the
same hohum cake but the caramel frosting was sweetly and lightly
browned deliciousness. If it wouldn’t make me hurl before we got to
the car I might have eaten just all of the frosting and left the
cake. The cream cheese frosting on top of the red velvet cake was
exemplary, I can’t even remember what the cake actually tasted like,
it seems it was better but that might just be the frosting talking.
Gigi’s lacks inventiveness and not all of their offerings are
worthwhile but a couple turned out to be right on the mark. |
