Following lunch at Tito’s Steph
mentioned a little cup cake shop right around the corner she had
been wanting to try so we stopped into a little corner spot with a
little counter and a case with about a dozen varieties of personal
cakery. The young lady behind the counter was nice enough and she
did a really nice job accommodating the customer ahead of us who had
numerous questions about things they make and things they don’t.
Everything was answered with a smile.

I don’t know how much longer the cupcake thing with be “the” thing but there are enough places churning them out to require you to find a way to stand out from the sweet masses. This little place has found that distinction, at least for us. According to their website and information in the shop, it’s a family run place that grew out of an effort to take old family recipes and give them a healthier twist. Hence the Lite in DeLite. Each recipe apparently contains half the calories, half the fat and half the sugar of the more hedonistic originals.
I don’t usually focus on nutritional information but they are kind
enough to provide it on their website so I’ll share the details of
the half dozen we strolled out with and then we’ll talk about what
you lose in taste for the loss in calories. |

Truth be told, I really liked their treats. The whole wheat gives a nicely savory counter balance to the serious sweetness of the toppings and fillings. It works exceptionally well with the red velvet and well with the pancake and chocolate cakes but overpowers the banana a bit in the ice cream sundae. The frostings are smooth and definitely sweet enough even with half the sugar and fat. The combos work well together, I had favorites but that all comes down to personal taste, I'm sure you could find your own personal favorites in the case, and you can do it with decreased guilt.
Just before leaving Steph spotted jars of Biscotti and Macaroons on
the top of the counter and we added a couple of lemon raspberry
macaroons to the order. They were light and crispy, filled with
fruit and zest and now Steph wants to make some. Must be good. Pure
DeLite stands out in a really good way, inventive, scrumptious and
an eye on improved nutrition for sweet treats. We'll certainly be
back. So many more flavors to go. |
